It's likely that MJ would have never even gone to prison for his crimes if he had been found guilty.  When the allegations resurfaced in the early 2000s, Jermaine and the Jackson family hatched a plan for their brother. They knew the pop star wouldn't fare well behind bars so they planned an escape for him.

Hidden Jet

At the end of 2005, without telling Michael, Jermaine came up with a way to hide out from the prison system. The star's brother had managed to get a private plane that would discreetly take Michael to the country of Bahrain. If the trial went south for him, the Middle-Eastern land had no extradition treaty so Michael would be safe from bounty hunters there.
