In 1994, Madonna's appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman made history as the most-censored late-night talk show in history. During the span of her interview, Madonna said the F-word 14 times. The segment was incredibly tense, with Madonna accusing Letterman of "sucking up" to his guests instead of challenging them.

By the end of the episode, Madonna had literally refused to leave the set, even though audience members were telling her to leave. Instead, she just sat there, puffing on a cigar. The episode was a disaster, but it drew the highest ratings Letterman had ever had.
