The FDA Has Recalled More Dog Food As It Poses a Health Risk to Pets and Humans

The FDA has recalled more dog food due to the risk of Salmonella contamination. The earlier recall involved a potentially deadly toxin from a naturally-occurring mold. Dog food owners are encouraged to get rid of the food to protect the safety of both themselves and their pets.

Real Pet Food Company offers an array of food options for dogs, including chilled, dry, and wet products. They emphasize their use of high-quality ingredients, but one particular brand had been recalled due to a sample of Salmonella. According to the company, they had to take the Billy+Margot Wild Kangaroo and Superfoods Recipe 4lb bags off shelves. Salmonella is just as dangerous for pets as it is for humans.

Symptoms of Salmonella in dogs can include diarrhea, fever, vomiting, and stomach pain. The infection can also be transferred to humans by licking them, or if a person handles the contaminated dog food and doesn't wash their hands. Though adults can generally recover, children, the elderly, and pets have a harder time bouncing back and can develop even more severe symptoms.
