Netflix is releasing a heart-pounding, anxiety-inducing horror film focusing on real-world problems all while intertwining the mysteries of the paranormal world.
His House is directed by Remi Weekes and stars Lovecraft Country queen Wunmi Mosaku, Gangs of London star Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, and even Doctor Who icon Matt Smith.
The two main characters, Bol and Rial, are welcomed into England as Sudanese refugees... Although, "welcome" is a bit of an overstatement. They are given a home by the government that is infested with insects and animals and is completely falling apart. As they try and live out their new life, they are attacked relentlessly by racist neighbors and something otherworldly.
They are doing their best to appreciate the life they were able to obtain in another country, but when you live in a house that is foreboding and shrouded in negative energy, that gets difficult. Plus, if they want to leave this house, then they have to go back to their war-torn hometown...
Remi Weekes explores the complex themes of war, racism, and xenophobia (the true horrors of the world) and mixes it with the paranormal. His House drops on Netflix on October 30.
