Country singer Miranda Lambert is committed to helping pets impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
After Lambert's backup singer and close friend Gwen Sebastian's dog, Earl, fell seriously ill in March, Lambert was inspired to give back to those who may be struggling to care for their pets amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Lambert teamed up with the Waggle Foundation to establish the MuttNation Fund—a fund that will help those employed in the music industry cover their pets' medical bills, which, as any pet owner knows, can be incredibly steep.
In March, Earl was diagnosed with a rare liver disorder. A combination of hospital stays, relapses, and lifelong medical treatments meant that Sebastian was struggling to keep up with the bills.
"It was such an unexpected major expense at an already tough time," said Lambert. "So, it got me thinking that there must be a lot more people whose careers in the music industry have been on pause due to lack of live performance opportunities, and who are struggling with their pets' vet bills."
Lambert's love for dogs is as much a passion as her love for music. She cares for nine pups at home, and created the MuttNation Foundation alongside her mother in 2009 to support animal rescues throughout the country.
