Separated Families to Reunite Under Biden Administration

Under the Trump administration, many families were separated by border control when trying to get permanent legal status in the United States. According to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the Biden administration is currently in the process of reuniting whole families, not just parents and kids. This includes siblings who might be searching for citizenship in the USA.

"[This] includes siblings, another, you know, the partner or spouse, other parents if they're in the picture," said Michelle Brané, the executive director of the Biden administration's task force to reunite the separated families. "So we arranged for that. Once those applications are approved, we will facilitate travel arrangements."

This won't guarantee the status of citizenship, but it's the first step towards bringing families back together.

It's currently estimated that more than 1,000 families remain separated, but Mayorkas has decided that the government will not launch an investigation of Trump administration officials at this time. However, the future remains unclear. Right now, the most important thing is focusing on getting children back to their parents, siblings, and extended family.
