The CGI became more sophisticated with each passing season, especially when it came to Daenerys' dragon. Subreddits devoted to the show joked that every time a direwolf was killed off, it had been sacrificed to the "Gods of the CGI budget," implying that the SFX required to animate them was too expensive.
